Major Items

1. A backpack or duffle bag large enough to hold all of your gear. Be sure to label your pack with your name and ward/branch.

2. Summer or 3-season sleeping bag comfort rated to around +35°F.
3. Air mattress or sleeping pad and small camp pillow.

4. Shoes or boots suitable for hiking (no open-toed shoes).
Bring Ankle-length nylons to wear under socks to protect against blisters and a roll of moleskin for blister protection.

5. Footwear for whitewater: water shoes, crocs, or old sneakers -- must be closed-toe.

6. Extra healthy snacks (trail mix or something with protein and good calories; the stake will be providing all meals, but bring extra snacks as well).

Other Items

1. You may bring additional food from home. Please keep it in a compact (2-gallon Ziploc bags or smaller) and labeled bag. We recommend bringing extra high-calorie, high-protein snacks (like trail mix or beef jerky).

2. Fishing gear (youth aged 16 and older need a fishing license)

3. Small, lightweight camp chair (such as this)

4. Cell phones are welcome if you would like them for pictures, scripture reading, and communicating with youth leaders, who will also have cell phones. If you decide to bring a phone, please keep in mind the following:

  • We cannot guarantee good cell coverage in all locations where we will be for activities.

  • You are responsible for the phone. It may get damaged or lost. Considering the terrain, it will be difficult to locate if dropped. Be sure to pack your phone to avoid getting damaged in the water and dirt associated with camping and hiking.

  • Phones should not be brought on the river. Leave them locked in a leader's car.

  • If you don't bring a phone, all adult leaders will have the means for communicating so you may approach them at anytime with a communication need.

  • We will expect you to minimize your cell phone use, to maintain the standards in For the Strength of the Youth regarding media consumption, and to be respectful of others who have come on High Adventure to get away from excessive use of electronics.

Please do NOT bring personal music players, game systems of any kind, or other electronic devices.
